To provide sustainable solutions to poverty, illiteracy, and health issues by empowering communities through education, healthcare, and economic support.
Our Vision
A world where no child or youth feels alone and gets every possible help they need as soon as possible, with plans to expand across regions to reach struggling young people requiring educational and employment support.
How HIMS International Began
HIMS International WCF was founded on 16 January 2002 by Sir Alex Paterson, a Scottish humanitarian and missionary who felt a profound calling to serve the most vulnerable in Sierra Leone, West Africa. The organisation began with a single £100 donation from his nephew, a modest seed that grew into a movement dedicated to bringing quality food, clothing, medical care, education, shelter, and the word of God to those who needed it most.
From those humble beginnings, HIMS International has evolved and grown, standing out as a leading light in the fight against poverty and inequality. Our model is rooted in long term community relationships, working alongside local leaders, churches, and families to deliver sustainable, people centred change.
Today we operate four active projects across Sierra Leone: education, shelter, community ministry, and vocational training, having improved the lives of over 5,000 people through our direct efforts.

Organisation Founded

Christian Life Pre-Primary School
The Christian Life Pre-Primary School in Nyandeyama, Kenema was established, bringing quality early education to children in the community.
Projects Expand Across Sierra Leone
New projects launched including the House of Jesus for the Homeless, Christian Life Ministries, and the Alex Paterson Vocational Center.
5,000+ Lives Improved
Through direct efforts in education, shelter, community ministry, and vocational training, HIMS International has improved the lives of over 5,000 people in Sierra Leone.

Our infrastructure in Sierra Leone includes shelter homes, schools, and healthcare facilities to serve diverse community needs.
We maintain helpline offices throughout Sierra Leone to ensure rapid response to those who need us most.
